VIsuals and sound effects
We keep repeating this, but it’s important: this game has been deliberately designed outside of the parameters with which we usually measure visual appeal. Joker’s Jewels would have been pretty cutting-edge stuff back in 2001. Like some other Pragmatic titles, it feels like the paytable occupying the top of the screen is unnecessary and takes up valuable real estate.
Various jewels and joker-related symbols adorn the purple reels. They’re well designed with the bonus, joker, guitar and juggling batons the high-paying symbols while the joker’s shoes and the three jewels are all low-paying.
The one area where we feel this game falls short is its sound design. The choices made are deliberate, but it feels like a jumbled mess. The layering of the game’s music, the sound of the reels spinning and the chimes that play when the game pays out will have you reaching for the mute button in a hurry.
Features
The game’s only feature – if you can even call it that – is the Bonus Crown symbol which acts as the game’s scatter. They pay out so long as you land at least three of them across the reels. All of the symbols pay left-to-right across five standard paylines.

Joker's Jewels winning strategy
We feel that Joker’s Jewels is better suited to players with bigger floats. The paytable is very much the star of the show here. With a minimum payout of 1x for landing two Blue Gems on a payline, there’s a chance to keep your float ticking over.
On the other end of the scale, the 1 000x jackpot prize and the bonus scatter symbol offer plenty of value on the high end! You do, however, need to be wary of the game’s volatility which is at the very high end of medium. The paytable negates this ever so slightly, but we did go through long periods without wins during our testing.
Conclusion
This is a proper throwback that’ll transport you back to a time when you could only play slots in a land-based casino. An excellent paytable and a retro look make this game a must-try, even if you have to mute the sound to get the most out of the experience.
